Service Description:
Women's Aid provides comprehensive support for women and children
affected by domestic violence.
Services include:

Safe Temporary Accommodation in Hereford for women and
their children (if they have any) where women can recover
from mental or physical abuse in a supported environment.
The refuge is self catering though does have emergency supplies |

Alternative Safe Accommodation is always found at another
refuge in the national network if the Hereford Refuge is full |

Information, Support and Counselling |
 |
Outreach Work with women and children affected by domestic
violence who do not want to go into the refuge but who need
support in exploring other options. |
 |
Aftercare is offered to all women and children when they
are leaving the refuge, at first on an individual basis, then
as part of a weekly aftercare group |
 |
Trained Child Support Workers work to identify the needs
of children resident with their mothers in the refuge. They
organise and deliver a wide range of activities and participate
in child protection work with Social Services and other agencies |

Rural Resettlement Service provides intensive longer-term
support for families in Social Housing, who are recovering
from the trauma of domestic violence |
 |
The strategic development of domestic violence policies
and services in Herefordshire in partnership with a wide range
of local, regional and national agencies |
Referrals:
Contact via the helpline number during office hours or via the Samaritans
at any other time.
Charges for Refuge Accommodation:
£11 per week if on Housing Benefit
Otherwise, weekly payments negotiated according to disposable income
Disabled Access:
The refuge has a ground floor bedroom with bathroom, adapted for
wheelchair access.
Other Information:
Herefordshire Women's Aid is a member of the Women's
Aid Federation Of England, which is the key national agency
for women and children experiencing physical, sexual or emotional
abuse in their homes.
