Day Care for Older People with mental health problems is provided in a number of different settings in Herefordshire by both Health and Social Services and by several voluntary organisations
Some of the services listed offer places only to people with Functional illnesses (e.g. anxiety and depression.
Others offer more specialised care for people with Organic illnesses (e.g. Alzheimer' disease or other dementia type illness)

Service Description:
The Nan Bellville Day Hospital looks after people with dementia illness providing multi disciplinary assessment and treatment as well as a recreational programme and advice and support to carers.

Hours:
9am - 5pm Monday to Friday

Day Care for older people with organic mental health problems is also provided by DMHOP on one day a week at the Community Hospitals in Bromyard (Tuesdays) and Leominster (Wednesdays). Both have ten places for people with moderate to severe dementia and provide transport to and from the hospital.

Service Description:
Elmhurst is a residential care home that also runs a day care centre specifically for people with moderate to severe dementia. It has places for 6 people daily and offers a range of activities, care and support to carers.

£5.50 per day (includes transport and midday meal)

The Alzheimer's Society provides Day Care at four different location throughout Herefordshire on the following days:

  • Wednesday, 49 Breinton Road, Hereford

  • Thursday, Harling Court, Ledbury

Transport can be provided. A hot lunch is served at all the centres and also coffee & tea. The day provides a break for carers and an opportunity for those attending to relax and socialise.

The service is managed by a Daycare Manager and all centres are run by trained staff with the help of volunteers. Those attending have the opportunity to enjoy a social day out and take part if they wish in activities of their choice.
Everybody has an individual Care Plan

10am - 3pm

Referrals: Referrals must be made through your GP, CPN, Social Services or self-referrals provided there is a diagnosis of dementia.

Mobile Day Centres

Age Concern

Age Concern gas two Mobile Day Centres designed to offer friendship and services to people in rural areas, who are unable to take advantage of day care facilities available in local towns. They offer hairdressing, chiropody, and hand and foot care. Exercise to music, Crafts and other activities are available for members who want to take part. Meals and refreshments also provided.

Glenton Lodge is provided by the WRVS and has places for 20 people for people with functional mental health problems (e.g. depression or anxiety) as well to people in the early stages of dementia illnesses. It is open three days a week. Midday meals are available.

Description:
Drybridge House has 24 places daily. All day care services are provided including transport and midday meal. It has an established Service User group who play an important role in determining the programme on offer, which includes a wide range of activities and social activities.
Drybridge devotes one day a week (Wednesday) to respite care to give full time carers a day off. 16 respite places available.

Description:
Woodside is a residential respite centre and also provides Day Care 7 days a week to up to 7 people. Although the majority of its clients are aged over 65 it offers places to any one over 18 needing this type of Day Care.
It also runs Satellite Clubs at warden controlled flat complexes at Smallbrook Gardens, Ross (Mondays) and Weston under Penyard (Wednsdays). There are places for 15 people at each venue. Ring Woodside for more information.
