Alcohol and Young People

Herefordshire currently has no specific service in place for people under the age of eighteen who are having problems related to alcohol consumption. The responsibility for helping these young people therefore falls to CAMHS.
The Community Alcohol Service only sees people over the age of 18. However they do support and train staff from other agencies who involved with young people who are having problems with drink.

DASH, Herefordshire's Drug Service does see young people under the age of 18 who are having problems with drugs and also accepts self referral. However whenever possible with permission it seeks to engage with the young persons GP and parents.

Alcoholics Anonymous 08457 697555
AA is a worldwide network of recovery groups for alcoholics. They all use a recovery model called the 12 step programme, which involves comprehensively owning up to the damage alcohol has done to you and the people around you.
They hold regular meetings throughout the county.

Al-Anon 08457 697555
Al-Anon supports for families and friends of problem drinkers, whether the alcoholic is still drinking or not.
Alateen, a part of Al-Anon, is for young people aged 12 - 20 who have been affected by someone else's drinking, usually that of a parent. They hold regular meetings.
